The Hyundai i30 N TCR cars of Mark Wilkins and Michael Lewis have claimed the first two spots on the grid for the inaugural race of the Pirelli World Challenge’s TCR class.
During the Qualifying session at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas, Brian Herta Autosport teammates Wilkins and Lewis posted the two fastest laps twice. The first time they had their times disallowed for track limits infringements at T19, but their second attempt, five minutes before the end of the session, placed them on top of the time sheet for good. Wilkins’ lap of 2:18.914 gave him pole position, while Lewis qualified second with a lap of 2:19.252.
Ryan Eversley had set a provisional fastest lap of 2:19.314 in his RealTime Racing Honda Civic TCR, but was demoted to third on the grid for Race 1 by the Hyundai pair. Denmark’s Martin Jensen qualified his Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR in fourth position after leading the pack halfway through the session with a lap of 2:20.195.
The fifth and sixth places were filled by Jérimy Daniel’s The Racing Company Audi RS3 LMS and Michael Hurczyn’s FCP Euro Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.
The first race will start at 16:55 local time (22:55 CET); live streaming and live timing will be available at www.tcr-series.tv.
