It will be an unprecedented front row for tomorrow’s Race 1 of WTCR at Suzuka, with the Peugeot 308 of Aurélien Comte in pole position for Race 1 and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta of Kevin Ceccon alongside.
The red flag disrupted the session after five minutes when Mat’o Homola hit a tyre stack a Turn 4. When action resumed, Esteban Guerrieri set a provisional fastest lap of 2:11.882, but the Argentine was demoted to third by Ceccon’s 2:11.643 and then by Comte’s pole position time of 2:11536.
Guerrieri improved further his time to 2:11.708, but did not improve his third position, while his teammate Yann Ehrlacher qualified in fourth position with a time of 2:11.872.
Current points leader Gabriele Tarquini (2:12.109) ranked fifth, five thousandths ahead of title rival Yvan Muller (2:12.114).
Mehdi Bennani, Norbert Michelisz, Jean-Karl Vernay and Homola rounded off the top ten, while Thed Björk qualified in a disappointing 17th position, with Tiago Monteiro 20th on his racing return.
Race 1 will start tomorrow at 14:05 local time (07:05 CET).
