Aurélien Panis will return to the WTCR at the wheel of a CUPRA run by Belgium-based Comtoyou Racing.
“I am very happy to carry on in WTCR. Continuity is important and from that I am in position to reap the benefits of months of work and progress,” said the young Frenchman who shone in the Trophée Andros ice-racing series, where he scored the best overall finish by an all-electric car with third position in the final elite category standings. He also won the Super Finale at the prestigious Stade de France in Paris alongside his father Olivier. “It was a good winter for me and for sure to be doing a competition rather than having nothing to do is helpful for my preparations.”
Team principal Jean-Michel Baert commented: “I am very happy to be able to renew Aurélien's contract. He’s a very talented boy who wins every year in experience since he won a TCR International Series race at Buriram in 2017. This announcement also confirms the partnership we have set up with CUPRA. Jaime Puig wanted us to work together for a long time and hopefully we’ll be very successful. One thing is certain, we expect a lot of success from this new collaboration.”
