André Couto repeated his earlier Race 1 victory to score another comfortable win in TCR China’s second sprint race at the Ningbo International Speedpark.
The Macanese driver made a great start from pole position and was then never headed over the ten-lap race. Behind Couto’s Honda Civic, the Volkswagen Golf GTI of Zhou Bi Huang made a poor start from P2 on the grid and dropped to fifth place, while Couto’s MacPro Racing teammate Miguel Kong made probably the best start of all and was second behind Couto going into Turn 1. Kong, however, made a couple of mistakes and was then passed by Li Lin, Sunny Wong and the recovering Zhuo and so dropped to fifth place by the end of lap 1.
Much of the race was then processional, although a battle for second place seemed likely over the closing laps. Going into the final lap, Li Lin and Wong were separated by a little over three-tenths of a second, but the pair made contact and both cars left the track. As a result, Zhou Bi Huang finished second and Kong completed the podium. Li Xue Feng’s Volkswagen was fourth, ahead of the two SEAT León cars of Du Jia Pin and Dai Ling Hao.
The 60-minute Race 3 takes place on Sunday at 15:35 local time (9:35am CET).
