Nine TCR cars in the Nürburgring 24 Hours
The TCR class in the ADAC 24-Hour Nürburgring has increased by nearly 100% compared to last year. In the upcoming weekend, the 46th edition of the long distance race on the Nordschleife road course will see nine teams in the class, against last year’s five.
There is a bunch of ‘Grüne Hölle’ specialists like Lubner Motorsport that fields two very fast Opel Astra cars built by Kissling Motorsport, FEV Racing the winner of this year’s first round of the VLN with its Cupra TCR and Bonk Motorsport that three weeks ago placed its Audi RS3 LMS on top of the class in the 6-hour Qualifying Race.
A couple of non-German teams have all the chances to spoil the locals’ party: Team Altran Peugeot, the winner of last year’s 24H Series, runs a Peugeot 308 Racing Cup, while the Finnish trio of Antti Buri, Olli Kangas and Kari-Pekka Laaksonen has won the 2017 24H Barcelona in the LMS Racing Cupra TCR.
However, most of the attention goes to the two Hyundai Motorsport-entered i30 N TCR cars, especially to the #831 that will be driven by Nordschleife experts Manuel Lauck, Andreas Gülden and Peter Terting that, with the latter at the wheel, set a new TCR lap record of 9:03.206 during the Qualifying session of the Qualification Race. This outstanding trio will share the Korean car with Touring Car legend Nicola Larini who claimed an historical triumph on the 25-kilometre road course in the 1993 DTM.
