Dutch driver Niels Langeveld of Racing One will start Race 1 at Zandvoort from pole position after setting the fastest time of 1:45.892 in this morning’s Qualifying session. Making it an all-Audi front row will be LMS Racing’s Antti Buri, who was 0.226 second slower around the seaside circuit; 1:46.118 his fastest lap.
The second row of the grid will consist of the HP Racing Opel Astra of the current championship leader Harald Proczyk (1:46.238) and Mike Halder’s Honda Civic (1:46.274), while Max Hesse’s Audi and Théo Coicaud’s Hyundai qualified fifth and sixth.
The top ten was rounded off by Loris Prattes’ Cupra, Simon Reicher’s Audi, Luke Wankmüller’s Opel and Luca Engstler’s Hyundai with the reversed top-ten grid seeing Engstler starting from pole for Race 2.
In a sign of things to come, Langeveld had topped the timesheet in Q1, in which he set a fastest lap of 1:46.103, ahead of Reicher (1:46.222), Halder (1:46.277) and Proczyk (1:46.346). The second stage of Qualifying then saw Langeveld become the only driver to beat the 1:46 barrier.
The Qualifying results also meant that Langeveld reduced his gap from Proczyk in the standings to eight points.
The entire top twelve who made it through to Q2 were covered by less than a second, with the weekend’s first race scheduled for 16.50 CET this afternoon (live streaming at www.tcr.-series.com and www.tcr-series.tv).
