Nicolai Sylvest has claimed pole position for the first race of the TCR Denmark series at the Jyllandsringen circuit, leading the way ahead of his championship leading teammate Jan Magnussen, with Kasper H. Jensen their closest threat in third.
Jensen had topped the two practice sessions in his Massive Motorsport Honda Civic in damp conditions earlier in the day, but it was dry for qualifying where the LM CUPRA Leon Competición cars came forward.
While the Brian Madsen Motorsport Peugeot of Casper Elgaard set the early pace in the first qualifying session, the two CUPRA cars took over when they came out later in the session, with Sylvest jumping straight to the top of the time sheets with a time of 1:09.188, while Magnussen’s 1:09.583 safely saw him through to Q2 with the fourth-fastest time.
In Q2, Sylvest showed there was even more pace to be seen in the CUPRA Leon, setting a lightning fast time of 1:08.870 on his first run, which was never bettered throughout the rest of the session.
Magnussen set a 1:09.004 on his first run, and while the points leader was able to improve on his second time and also break into the 1:08s, he was still 0.043 seconds behind his teammate and would have to settle for second for tomorrow’s first race.
Jensen set his time late in the session, but was three-tenths down on Sylvest’s pace, while Elgaard was some way back in fourth, eight-tenths behind in his Peugeot 308. However, Elgaard was later disqualified for a ride height infringement, and so Jacob Mathiassen advanced to fourth.
The first of Sunday’s three races will start at 12:35 CEST.
