René Münnich clinched the 2019 TCR Middle East title with a perfect score of six victories out of the six sprint races. Today, during the series’ finale at Dubai Autodrome, the German driver and his Honda Civic Type R claimed two comfortable wins ahead of the CUPRA of Luc Breukers.
In Race 1, Münnich started from the pole position and pulled away, increasing his leading margin up to 23.8 seconds over Breukers at the end of the 14 laps. Zengő Motorsport teammates Tamás Tenke and Zoltán Zengő delivered a close fight for the third position that eventually saw Zengő overtaking Tenke on lap 7.
Münnich’s victory also meant that he secured the title, having built a margin of 38 points over Breukers, with 35 still on offer between Race 2 and Race 3.
Breukers led during the first lap of the second race, as he was able to pass both Zengő and Tenke who had started from the front row of the reverse grid. However, despite taking the start from the pit lane, Münnich recovered quickly, took the lead in lap 2 and went to claim his sixth victory in the series.
Breukers took the chequered flag 16 seconds behind, both the Zengő Motorsport CUPRA cars pitted with technical issues and rejoined after losing a few laps.
The TCR Middle East series will be concluded by a 4-hour race that will also count as the final round of the 24H Middle East championship; it will start at 14:35 local time (11:35 CET).
