Francisco Mora and Rafael Lobato have claimed the pole positions for the two TCR Portugal races that will open the season tomorrow at Braga’s Circuito Vasco Sameiro.
Mora, the 2016 and 2017 champion, posted the fastest lap of 1:22.299 in the first Qualifying session that determined the grid positions for Race 1. The Veloso Motorsport driver and his Cupra beat the Sports & You Peugeot 308 of Francisco Abreu by only 0.170 seconds.
Armando Parente was third fastest in the Team Novadriver Volkswagen Golf GTI (1:22.556), followed by Pedro Salvador in the Speedy Motorsport Cupra (1:22.572) as the first four drivers were covered by less than three tenths.
In the second Qualifying session for Race 2, Lobato drove the Sports & You Peugeot to set the fastest lap of 1:22.255, outpacing Mora (1:22.541), Salvador (1:22.627) and Francisco Carvalho’s Cupra (1:22.706). Manuel Gião qualified his Kia c’eed in fifth position, only six tenths from the pole.
The first race will start tomorrow at 10:15 local time (11:15 CET), followed by the second race at 14:10 local (15:10 CET).
