The third event of Campeonato de España Resistencia at the circuit of Jerez-Ángel Nieto delivered the first defeat for the Volcano Motorsport CUPRA of Mikel Azcona and Evgenii Leonov that had dominated the TCR class from the beginning of the season.
After four consecutive race wins, Azcona and Leonov had to settle for second place in Jerez’s Race 1, as they were beaten by Ferran Méndez in one of the CUPRA cars run by the RC2 Junior Team. Guillermo Aso completed the podium in third position.
The Volcano Motorsport duo resumed their winning path in Race 2, finishing ahead of Méndez and his teammates David Cebrián-Pedro Peña.
Azcona and Leonov have built a comfortable 76-point margin in the standings over Aso, while Peña lies a further 18 points adrift.
The series will return into action at Barcelona-Catalunya on November 7/8, where the competitors will take part in a single two-hour race.
