After securing the TC America title yesterday after Race 1, Tyler Maxson encored in Race 2 at the Circuit of the Americas. He took the lead from Roy Block in lap 7 and then controlled the race, resisting the late recover from Block and Victor González.
At the start, Scott Smithson made good use of his pole position and led the field, with Block on his tail, while Maxson sprinted from P7 on the grid and moved into P3 ahead of Olivia Askew. During the first lap, Smithson spun off in Turn 6 and dropped in the middle of the TC field, while Block found himself in the lead, though chased by Maxson and Askew. Behind them, Taylor Hagler defended P4 from Victor González who eventually passed her in lap 5.
Block’s dream of winning the race ended in lap 7 when he dropped down to third behind Maxson and Askew, however the Argentine retook P2, overtaking Askew in the following lap. In lap 10, Hagler overtook both Askew and González, moving into P3.
In lap 12, Smithson managed to pass C.J. Moses for P6 and two laps later González overtook Askew for P4.
In the final stages of the race, Block closed in on Maxson, but not enough to threaten his leadership. Maxson scored his 11th win of the season from 13 races, closely followed by Block who salvaged the second position from the assault of González who had finally passed Hagler in the previous lap.
Race 3 is scheduled for tomorrow, at 10:55 local time (17:55 CEST); live streaming at www.tcr-series.com.
