Mat’o Homola has been declared the winner of TCR Europe’s second race at Monza, following a 30-second penalty that dropped Franco Girolami from P1 to P19.
After the race, the Stewards received a protest from Volcano Motorsport that Girolami had passed Mikel Azcona under yellow flags at Turn 5 (the exit to the Roggia chicane) on Lap 3.
Following an investigation, the Stewards upheld the protest and so gave Girolami a thirty-second penalty that dropped him to nineteenth place in the final results.
That meant that Mat’o Homola became the seventh race winner in the current season – his and Janík Motorsport’s first victory in TCR Europe, with Tom Coronel moving up to second place and Jack Young to third.
As far as the standings are concerned, Azcona’s leading margin grew up to 53 points that are actually 60 as Girolami must drop 7 points scored in the first race at the Slovakia Ring. However, with 90 points on offer in the season’s finale at Barcelona the title fight remains open.
