Mason Flippi claimed pole position for the opening round of TC America that will take place this afternoon at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas. On a track that was still wet after an early shower, Filippi’s Hyundai Veloster N clocked a time of 2:34.298 on his last lap, demoting the Volkswagen Golf GTI cars of Nate Vincent and Michael Hurczyn to second and third.
Hurczyn had been the first to post competitive times in the 15-minute session, jumping on top with a lap of 2:38.636 and immediately improving to 2:37.290. As the session progressed, his teammate Vincent clocked a new provisional fastest lap of 2:35.640 that Hurczyn was not able to beat despite improving further to 2:37.017.
However, after a quick pit stop, Filippi completed a lap that was the fastest by 1.2 seconds and gave him the pole for Race 1.
James Walker qualified fourth in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta, followed by the Audi RS 3 LMS cars of Canadian Nelson Chan and Bryan Putt who were first and second in the DSG Cup.
The first race will start at 14:40 local time (21:40 CET) on the distance of 40 minutes; live streaming at www.tcr-series.com and www.tcr-series.tv.
