Luca Engstler secured the TCR Asia title with a double victory at the Shanghai International Circuit, where the Team Engstler Volkswagen Golf GTI cars finished 1-2-3 in both races. Mitchell Cheah and Diego Moran were classified second and third in today’s races and also in the championship standings.
In TCR China, Henry Ho took the seventh consecutive sprint race victory for the MacPro Racing Honda Civic #88, but in Race 2 Alex Hui’s TeamWork Motorsport Golf GTI stopped the Macanese team’s winning streak.
In Race 1, Engstler led home Team Engstler’s first 1-2-3, with Cheah and Moran finishing behind him. Moran was able to retake the third position overall overtaking Ho during the final lap. The latter finished fourth overall and won the TCR China race from Filipe De Souza’s TA Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS and Tian Li Ying’s HE Racing Golf GTI. Sunny Wong’s TeamWork Motorsport Golf GTI retired early in the race after a collision with another car.
Engstler encored in Race 2, followed by Cheah and Moran who had to fight with Alex Hui in the first part of the race. Hui was classified fourth overall and first of TCR China, while Eurico De Jesus – who had replaced Ho in the MacPro Racing Honda – overtook the Audi of De Souza’s co-driver Ryan Wong on the penultimate lap to take second.
The MacPro Racing Honda of Henry Ho and De Jesus has retained a 20-point lead in TCR China ahead of the TeamWork Motorsport Golf GTI Sunny Wong and Alex Hui; the championship’s 60-minute Race 3 will start at 16:30 local time.
