The more you win, the more you are eager to keep on. At least this seems to be the philosophy of Daniel Lloyd who completed a strong recovery to grab his seventh victory out of seven races in the TCR UK at Castle Combe.
After being beaten in yesterday’s Qualifying by Oliver Taylor, Lloyd found himself fourth after the start. He did not give up and began a recovery that ended on the last lap, when he dived to the inside of Taylor’s Honda Civic, pushed it wide and took the lead.
At the start, Taylor sprinted from the pole to take command ahead of Andreas Bäckman, Lewis Kent and Lloyd. Behind them there was a contact at Turn 1 between Finlay Crocker and Jessica Bäckman; Crocker went off in the gravel, wile Stewart Lines could not avoid his spinning car and retired.
The safety car was deployed on lap 2 and the race resumed on lap 7 with Jessica Bäckman able to rejoin one lap down after a pit stop.
Lloyd began chasing the cars in front; he benefitted from Kent’s mistake on lap 10 to climb to third and then overtook Andreas Bäckman for second on lap 12. Later he began to bite on Taylor leading margin.
For a few laps, Taylor was able to keep him at distance, but towards the end of the race Lloyd got closer and eventually managed to jump at the front with a controversial move on the final lap.
Taylor crossed the line in second position ahead of Andreas Bäckman, Kent and Carl Swift. The latter had a close fight with Derek Palmer for most of the race, until the Alfa Romeo Giulietta retired with a technical issue on lap 18.
Lloyd’s leading margin in the standings went up to 102 points ahead of Taylor, with Andreas Bäckman third a further 39 points adrift.
