Lewis Kent has taken his second win of the 2021 TCR UK championship season at Brands Hatch, fighting his way into the lead in another race which was stopped early-on after carnage at the start.
William Butler started from pole position in his Power Maxed Racing CUPRA but had a slow start and fell behind the Area Motorsport CUPRA of Bruce Winfield into the first corner, while Lewis Kent moved up to second in his Essex & Kent Motorsport Hyundai.
There was trouble immediately however, as the two Power Maxed Racing CUPRA cars of Butler and Jac Constable came together at the exit of Paddock Hill bend and crashed out, with the race soon red-flagged and a full restart ordered.
The race was now reduced to 15 minutes, with Winfield starting from an effective pole position at the restart with Butler out of the race. The CUPRA driver led the way ahead of Lewis Kent and Dan Kirby in the last of the Power Maxed Racing CUPRA cars as the lights went out.
Winfield managed to hold off Kent for six laps, before Kent made his move at the inside of Paddock Hill bend, with the two drivers going side-by-side all the way around Druids and towards Graham Hill bend, before Winfield slotted in behind.
Kent now managed to pull away, while his brother, Bradley, working his way forward from the back of the grid, managed to pass Max Hart’s Maximum Motorsport Hyundai for fifth at Surtees on lap nine.
Bradley Kent and Hart would then both pass the DW Racing Vauxhall Astra of Alex Kite on lap 12, and that would be as far as the two front-runners would progress.
Up front, Winfield lost second place to yesterday’s race winner Kirby with three laps to go and would have to settle for third at the finish.
Lewis Kent therefore secured his second win of the season. The third race of the weekend is scheduled for 14:20 local time (15:20 CEST), with Bradley Kent starting ahead of his brother Lewis.
