Brian Herta Autosport’s Michael Lewis drove his Hyundai i30 N to set the fastest time in the Qualifying for the Pirelli World Challenge’s fifth event at Grantsville’s Utah Motorsports Campus.
Lewis posted the fastest lap of 1:57.864 with 13 minutes left in the 20-minute session, claiming his first pole position of the season and scoring one point that helped him to reduce his gap from the current championship leader Ryan Eversley to 16 points.
Eversley was second fastest in his RealTime Racing Honda Civic with a lap of 1:58.151, outpacing Lewis’ teammate Mark Wilkins by only seven thousandths of a second.
RealTime’s new recruit Mason Filippi qualified fourth with a two-second gap (1:59.873), with JT Coupal’s Compass Racing Audi RS3 LMS in fifth position (1:59.968).
Michael Hurczyn was the fastest of the Volkswagen drivers and placed his Golf GTI in sixth position (2:00.135).
