The new TCR DSG Endurance Italian Championship was launched today during a press conference at the Monza circuit.
The series, promoted by ACI Sport Italia that has entrusted the technical management to Scuderia del Girasole, will kick off at Monza on 5/7 April and will be held over six events, each one featuring a qualifying sprint race and a 2-hour race with two pit stops.
ACI Sport General Manager Marco Rogano explained: “We believe in this project because many drivers like this format of racing. We needed to find a strong technical partner and it was easy to reach an agreement with Tarcisio Bernasconi’s Scuderia del Girasole. We thank Marcello Lotti for his support and expect to receive many entries, especially considering that the running costs are really affordable.”
Lotti, the mastermind behind the TCR concept said: “In our strategy to promote the TCR concept we have always refrained from licensing series reserved for DSG cars, because these are produced by the Volkswagen Group only. However, the project proposed by ACI Sport and Bernasconi was very attractive; we saw it had the basis for organising a high-level series and decided to support this experiment that is something new in the TCR global panorama.”
