On his second appearance in the TCR Italy after winning the season’s opener at Monza, Klim Gavrilov set pole position for tomorrow’s Race 1 at Mugello.
The TCR Russia title contender drove his VRC Team Audi RS 3 LMS to complete a lap of 1:56.851 in the latest stages of the 25-minute session. Gavrilov was the only driver to break the 1:57 wall and demoted to second Enrico Bettera who had set the pace from the beginning, clocking provisional fastest laps of 1:57.962 and 1:57.014.
However, Bettera will start from the pole position because Gavrilov will be dropped to tenth positions on the grid because of a penalty he was given after the second race at Monza.
This means that Marco Pellegrini’s Hyundai (1:57.283) will start from the second spot, while the CUPRA of reigning champion and current points leader Salvatore Tavano (1:57.325) and Jacopo Guidetti’s Audi (1:57.848) will fill the second row. After setting the sixth fastest lap in Qualifying, Felix Wimmer was also hit by a grid penalty, of five places, for improving under yellow flag.
Tavano’s teammate Matteo Greco – second in the standings – qualified in seventh position, while the fastest in the DSG class was Eric Scalvini in eight. And so they will share the front row of the top-eight reverse grid for Sunday’s Race 2.
Race 1 will start tomorrow at 16:30 local time (CET); live streaming at www.tcr-series.com and www.tcr-series.tv.
