Jensen beats Sylvest to the pole for TCR Denmark’s first race

Reigning TCR Denmark champion Kasper H. Jensen claimed pole position at Jyllandsringen for the first of this weekend’s three races. The Massive Motorsport driver and his Honda Civic Type R edged out the LM Motorsport pair of CUPRA Leon Competitición cars driven by Nicolai Sylvest and Jan Magnussen. This result will offer Jensen the opportunity to extend his leadership in the standings as his closest rival Casper Elgaard qualified in fourth position, while Michael Markussen who is currently placed third in the points will start the race from the back of the grid after his Peugeot 308 suffered from some technical issues during the Qualifying.
Elgaard topped the timesheet in Q1, beating Kenn Bach and Sylvest, while Markussen stopped on the track after two laps and was towed back to the pits.
Magnussen was the first one to break the 1:11 mark, with a provisional fastest lap of 1:10.318 that was soon bettered by Jensen’s 1:10.126. Soon afterwards, Sylvest was even faster with a lap of 1:10.013, but Elgaard settled the matter for good clocking a 1:09.873 that gave him the first position in Q1. In the dying moments of the 12-minute first part of the session, Magnussen improved to 1:10.264 but remained fourth, before being demoted to sixth when René Povlsen (1:10.099) and Bach (1:09.956) advanced to fourth and second respectively.
The ten drivers who advanced to Q2 were Elgaard, Bach, Sylvest, Povlsen, Jensen, Magnussen, Louise Frost, Jakob Mathiassen, Michael Carlsen and Gustav Birch 
After the first lap in Q2, Jensen led the field with a lap of 1:09.101, followed by Sylvest (1:09.195) and Bach (1:09.577). Only a few drivers were able to improve on their second attempt; Sylvest jumped on top with a lap of 1:08.677, but Jensen was faster in 1:08.575. Magnussen’s best effort of 1:08.865 gave him the third position ahead of Elgaard, Bach and Mathiassen.
The first race is scheduled to get underway tomorrow at 12:00 CEST.
