Jean-Karl Vernay has clinched the TCR Benelux Trophy in the Leopard Lukoil Team Audi RS3 LMS. The Frenchman had arrived in Barcelona with a two-point gap from Comtoyou Racing’s Maxime Potty, but he was able to overturn the situation with victories in both the Spanish races.
"A title is a title! We were unlucky this season, but we never gave up. I dedicate this crown to my team and all the partners that supported me like never before," Vernay commented.
The Teams’ Trophy went to WRT that runs Vernay’s Audi and team principal Vincent Vosse commented: "This was out third Teams’ title in three years. Once again we proved that our strength is pushing at 200% until the last race and Jean-Karl is a magnificent champion for TCR Benelux."
Potty, who finished as runner-up in his Volkswagen Golf GTI, 17 points behind Vernay, said: "Even if I am disappointed for missing the title, there have been many positive things during the season, as I showed that I can be competitive against more experienced drivers."
Julien Briché completed the TCR Benelux Trophy podium in the JSB Compétition Peugeot 308. "I was hoping to finish in a better position, but my biggest satisfaction was that the Peugeot 308 TCR works really well!”
