WSC, Confederação Brasileira de Automobilismo (CBA) and TCR South America announced that the Autódromo José Carlos Pace at Interlagos will be the venue for the fourth event of the 2024 Kumho FIA TCR World Tour.
This change has been approved yesterday by the FIA World Motor Sport Council due to ongoing renovations at Goiânia’s Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna that was originally intended to host the event.
The event at Interlagos will take place on 19/21 July, with the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour sharing the grid with the TCR South America and TCR Brasil championships.
This race meeting will also mark the return of international Touring Car competition to the circuit located in the outskirts of São Paulo since the FIA International Touring Car Championship in 1996.
WSC President Marcello Lotti said: “We are very proud to add Interlagos to the list of the circuits that will host the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour in 2024. It’s such an iconic racetrack, famous around the world for being the home of the Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix. But it is also a circuit that suits well to Touring Car racing as it was proved last year by the TCR South America/TCR Brasil joint-event.”
TCR Brasil’s promoter Maurício Slaviero added: “Brazilian tradition in motor sports is recognized worldwide, thanks to the fans’ passion. We are thrilled to have a Kumho FIA TCR World Tour event in Interlagos, which makes São Paulo the only city in the world to host F1, WEC, FE and FIA TCR World Tour this season. Touring Car competitions are Brazilian fans’ favourite and I’m sure the event will attract a respectable crowd.”
