The Copeland Motorsports Hyundai Veloster N cars will fill the front row for the opening race of TC America at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas.
On a damp track that dried completely during the 15-minute Qualifying, teammates Nikko Reger and Tyler Maxson swapped the positions on top of the timesheet. Reger set a provisional fastest lap of 2:26.829 that was beaten by Maxson who completed a lap in 2:21.809 and then improved further to 2:20.359. However, in the dying moments of the session, Reger claimed pole position for good clocking a 2:18.886 that was good enough to resist Maxson’s final attempt of 2:19.516.
The FCP Euro duo of Nate Vincent and reigning champion Michael Hurczyn qualified in third and fourth positions respectively at the wheel of their Volkswagen Golf GTI cars, while Puerto Rican Victor González placed his Honda Civic in fifth.
The other TCR competitors struggled to emerge from the traffic of the other classes. The DXDT Racing Honda cars of Scott Smithson and CJ Moses ranked 10th and 13th overall, while Roy Block’s Alfa Romeo Giulietta qualified in 14th position after a risky choice of tyres: slicks on the front and wets on the rear.
TC America’s season opening race will start this afternoon at 15:25 local time (22:25 CET); live streaming will be available at www.tcr-series.com.
