Reigning ADAC TCR Germany champions Harald Proczyk and HP Racing International will defend their Drivers’ and Teams’ titles this year with a new car, the Hyundai i30 N, while the 43-year-old Austrian driver will have a new team mate in fellow countryman Lukas Niedertscheider (24).
The switch from the Opel Astra to the Hyundai is major news for the squad. “That's a big challenge,” reckons Proczyk, “and there is not much time to prepare and familiarize with the car ahead of the season-opener in Oschersleben on 26-28 April. We have tested in Hockenheim this week. For me it was the first time in the Hyundai and I was positively surprised. I think we have a good and strong package.”
Niedertscheider joins the team after racing in the series with a Peugeot 308 last year; personal development but also the defence of the Teams’ title will be the goals for him in 2019. "If the package works as it appeared during the tests, I am confident that I can be fighting for the top positions. As the reigning team champion, we have the duty to defend the title and I hope I can contribute by being fast and consistent,” he said.
