Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky started Race 2 at Karlskoga from pole position and was then never threatened, becoming the first lady driver to win a race in a major TCR series. The Honda Civic of Mattias Andersson finished second and Johan Kristoffersson was third in his Volkswagen Golf.
Åhlin-Kottulinsky made a perfect start in her Cupra and led the field into Turn 1. Behind the PWR Racing driver, the fast-starting Andersson passed Oliver Söderström on the run down to Turn 1 but was then unable to threaten for the lead, with Åhlin-Kottulinksy pulling away to open up a 1.3 second lead by lap 9 and doubling that advantage to 2.7 seconds by lap 15.
On lap 3, Fredrik Ekblom ran wide and dropped from 4th to 18th place, allowing Kristoffersson to move up to 4th and Andreas Wernersson to 5th. The pair soon passed the frustrated Söderström for 3rd and 4th places respectively, while Söderström would go on to finish 8th.
Åhlin-Kottulinsky’s PWR Racing teammate Daniel Haglöf started from 9th on the grid, but had already made up a place by lap 2 and then benefitted from Ekblom’s misfortune and the struggling Söderström to finish 5th behind Wernersson. The rest of the top ten places were filled by Tobias Brink (Audi), Robert Dahlgren (CUPRA), Söderström (Volkswagen), Micke Ohlsson (Audi) and Andreas Ahlberg (Volkswagen).
The next round of the championship is at Rudskogen in Norway on September 8th/9th.
