It was carnage more than a race, the final round of TCR Germany at Hockenheim, where most of the drivers were involved in violent fights.
The very same four title contenders that enlivened yesterday’s Race 1 provided again a breathtaking show. Eventually Mike Halder emerged as the winner, from Niels Langeveld, Harald Proczyk and Luca Engstler.
The result meant that Proczyk (HP Racing International Opel Astra) clinched the title with 421 points, followed by Engstler (Team Engstler Hyundai i30 N) 415, Langeveld (RacingOne Audi RS3 LMS) 403 and Halder (Fugel Motorsport Honda Civic) 366.
Langeveld had led for most of the distance after sprinting to the lead at the start from third on the grid. Halder was the first to chase him down, while Proczyk moved up to third on lap 5.
Engstler – who had bee dropped from 9th to 19th on the grid by a penalty resulted from three warnings for unfair driving – drove a furious race and elbowed his way through the field. He hit and was hit, but climbed relentlessly and finally overtook Luke Wankmüller for fourth on the penultimate lap just to finish in frustration behind Proczyk.
The safety car was deployed three times: once to recover Théo Coicaud’s Hyundai off Turn 1, then after Pascal Eberle’s Cupra rolled after a multiple collision and finally following a crash between Maurits Sandberg and J.C. Reynolds.
