The track remained wet for the second Practice at Marrakech, but lap times improved by more than two seconds compared to the previous session.
The fastest laps were posted by the Münnich Motorsport Honda Civic TCR cars of Esteban Guerrieri (1:31.655) and Yann Ehrlacher (1:31.707).
The first part of the session saw Rob Huff’s Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR setting the pace with provisional fastest laps of 1:33:411 and 1:33.094; then Thed Björk improved to 1:32.176 in his Hyundai i30 N TCR.
As the racing lines began to dry out, times dropped down and Ehrlacher moved on top with two consecutive laps of 1:32.084 and 1:31.707.
In the final moments, Guerrieri was clocked to 1:31.655, while Björk improved to 1:31.956 and moved up to third, ahead of Gabriele Tarquini (Hyundai) 1:32.173, Pepe Oriola (Cupra) 1:32.545, Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) 1:32.605, Huff (VW) 1:32.632, Aurélien Comte (Peugeot) 1:32.675, Benjamin Lessennes (Honda) 1:32.787 and Gordon Shedden (Audi) 1:32.855.
The only brand out of the top ten was Alfa Romeo, as Fabrizio Giovanardi placed his Giulietta in 15th position, 1.5 seconds off the leading pace.
The session was red-flagged once, after only six minutes, when Norbert Michelisz’s Hyundai stopped on the track with a technical issue.
Action will resume at 1:00 pm with a 40-minute Qualifying that will determine the grid for this afternoon’s Race 1.
