Matteo Greco claimed his second victory of the season in TCR Italy, at Monza and secured the second place in the championship’s final standings behind his Scuderia del Girasole teammate Salvatore Tavano.
On the wet track, Greco took the lead at the start from P2 on the grid, pipping pole sitter Damiano Reduzzi, while Enrico Bettera and Jacopo Guidetti followed in third and fourth positions. During the first lap Bettera overtook Reduzzi for P2 while Tavano and Felice Jelmini made contact at the Parabolica. In lap 2, Guidetti passed Reduzzi for P3 and the latter was then punted into a spin by Marco Pellegrini.
As he rain intensified, Guidetti passed Bettera for P2 in lap 3 and began closing the gap to Greco. Pellegrini moved into fourth position as he overtook Reduzzi, but was given a drive through for the previous incident with his rival.
Halfway through the race, the rain eased a bit, Eric Scalvini began chasing Bettera and passed him for P3 in lap 6. In lap 10, Greco made a mistake while negotiating the first chicane and his leading gap over Guidetti went down to 1.2 seconds. However, Greco was able to retain a small advantage and won by 1.6 second from Guidetti; Scalvini topped the DSG class and completed the overall podium ahead of Bettera, while Reduzzi won the close fight for P5 with Jelmini, though they both were given a 5-second penalty for zigzagging and for the collision with Tavano during the opening lap respectively.
