SMC Junior Motorsport’s Gonzalo De Andrés was crowned TCR Ibérico champion after the last couple of races at Jerez de la Frontera.
De Andrés, at the wheel of his Peugeot 308, finished fourth in the first race behind his rival in the title fight Evgenii Leonov, Mikel Azcona (both Volcano Motorsport, CUPRA) and the 16-year-old rookie Isidro Callejas (Chefo Sport, Peugeot 308).
These results meant that Leonov had reduced his gap in the standings to just one point behind De Andrés. However, the Stewards of the Meeting imposed 25-second penalties for track limit infringements to Leonov, Azcona and Callejas who were demoted to third, fourth and fifth behind De Andrés who inherited the win and Nicola Baldan.
De Andrés started the last race with a margin of 24 points, being in a position to control his rival. The Volcano Motorsport duo dominated the second race and Azcona handed the victory to Leonov during the final laps, but De Andrés settled in third position and secured the title.
