The pair of Giovanni and Alessandro Altoè keeps on winning in the TCR DSG Endurance Championship. At Mugello they drove their CUPRA car to a third victory out of the four rounds held so far and so increased their leading margin in the standings to 26 points ahead of the Audi RS 3 LMS shared by Ermanno Dionisio and Giacomo Barri who finished second in today’s race after Barri was victorious in yesterday’s Qualifying Race.
Carlotta Fedeli and Cosimo Barberini, who were placed second in the classification before this weekend, dropped to third, 36 points from the leaders, as their CUPRA retired during the 10th lap when Barberini made a mistake and went off while fighting with Sandro Pelatti for the seventh position.
During the first half of the race, Barri and Giovanni Altoè had a close fight for the lead until they pitted for the driver change. Altoè handed the car to his nephew Alessandro on lap 17 and Barri was replaced by Dionisio three laps later. Andrea Mabellini briefly inherited the lead, but soon the CUPRA #63 and the Audi #8 resumed their duel and from lap 22 Alessandro Altoè moved into the first place, closely chased by Dionisio who remained at striking distance until he crossed the finishing line in second place, only nine tenths behind the winning CUPRA.
Brothers Guido and Nicola Sciaguato completed the podium at the wheel of their CUPRA, followed by the Audi of Volpato-Pelatti and the Volkswagen Golf GTI of Segù-Gabbiani, the only other cars still in the same lap as the winners.
The next round of the series will be on August 30th/September 1st at Imola.
