Brothers Jonathan, Kevin and Steven Giacon shared the wheel of the Tecnodom Sport Audi RS 3 LMS to win the opening round of the TCR DSG Europe series at Monza.
Actually, it was another Audi, the HC Racing car driven by Simone Patrinicola and Gaetano Oliva, that crossed the finish line in first position at the end of the two-hour race with a margin of five tenths over the Tecnodom Sport car. However, the HC Racing pair were given a five-second time penalty for a track-limit infringement that dropped them to second.
Samuele Piccin and Romy Dall’Antonia completed an Audi 1-2-3 as they claimed the third spot on the podium for BF Motorsport.
The Tecnodom Sport car had led the race in the early stages after starting from the pole, while the HC Racing car was involved in a close battle for the second position with the Élite Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI of Alfredo De Matteo-Gabriele Volpato. The Golf was then delayed by a pit stop to repair a broken suspension, an issue that recurred with thirty minutes to go, forcing De Matteo to stop on the track. This prompted the safety car into action and the neutralization re-ignited the battle for the lead between Tecnodom Sport and HC racing.
The second round of the TCR DSG Europe will be run on 3/4 July at Misano.
