Francisco Mora encored in the TCR Ibérico opening event at Estoril and claimed his second victory of the weekend in today’s Race 2.
Daniel Teixeira’s SEAT sat on pole position, but Gustavo Moura took a better start and Teixeira also lost the second place to Mora. The latter took the lead from Moura during the first lap, while Teixeira managed to re-pass Moura, but then spun and dropped to sixth.
On lap 2, young Estonian Robin Vaks overtook Moura for second; behind them there was a close fight for fourth between Vaks’ teammate Mattias Vahtel, Gabriela Correia and Teixeira.
Vaks managed to shake Moura off and closed the gap from Mora, however he couldn’t get close enough to try an overtaking move. Mora won by less than two seconds from Vaks and Moura, while Teixeira recovered to fourth after passing both Correia and Vahtel; however later he was given a 30-second penalty for exceeding the track limits and dropped back to sixth.
The TCR Ibérico will resume for rounds 3 and 4 at Vila Real on 5/7 July.
