Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing has named the drivers to be part of its Junior Driver initiative for 2021: Jáchym Galáš, Mitchell Cheah, Tyler Maxson and Tyler Gonzalez.
Now in its third year the programme aims for supporting young talented drivers as they build their motorsport careers.
Galáš, 19-year-old from the Czech Republic, finished third in the 2020 TCR Eastern Europe and will now step up to TCR Europe in a Hyundai i30 N run by Janík Motorsport.
After proving his skills in TCR Malaysia and TCR Germany, Cheah is due to take up a seat with Engstler Motorsport, following in the footsteps of Luca Engstler, who took full advantage of the Junior Driver programme, graduating to a full-time drive in the FIA WTCR.
The youngest members of the group are 16-year-olds Tyler Maxson and Tyler Gonzalez. The pair are sharing a Copeland Motorsports Hyundai Veloster N in the TCR class of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge after enjoying excellent results in 2020.
Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Operations Leader Andrew Johns said: “The commitment to nurture young driving talent is a vital part of the Customer Racing department, and Hyundai Motorsport in general. We recognize that we can build the best cars possible, but we also need strong drivers that are able to get the maximum performance.”
