The Racer Dome Racing Honda Civic Type R claimed its maiden win of the season in the Super Taikyu’s fifth round, the Autopolis 5-hour race.
The Civic shared by Mitsuhiro Endo, Shinji Nakano and Shun Koide qualified fourth and last in the TCR class, while the other Civic run by Floral Racing and driven by Tadao Uematsu, Yuji Ide and Shintaro Kawabata set pole position, but retired early in the race with an engine issue.
For most of the distance, the Dome Racing car had a close fight for the lead with the Waimarama Kizuna Racing Team Audi RS 3 LMS of ‘Kizuna’, Katsumasa Chiyo, Hironobu Yasuda and Riki Okusa, and eventually took the chequered flag with a margin of 32.6 seconds.
The Audi entered by Rebellion Team Mars and driven by Taketoshi Matsui, Masanobu Kato, Masato Shimoyama and Toshiro Tsukada completed the podium two laps behind.
The second place meant that the Waimarama Kizuna Audi has reduced the gap in the standings to 1.5 points behind the Floral Racing Honda.
The final round of Super Taikyu will be the Suzuka 5-hour race on 23/24 January.
