First pole for Dominik Fugel in the ADAC TCR Germany season

Dominik Fugel drove his Team ADAC Sachsen Honda Civic Type R to set his first pole position in the 2021 ADAC TCR Germany. At the Sachsenring, his and the team’s home racetrack, Fugel clocked a time of 1:26.139 in the early stages of the 20-minute Qualifying to claim pole position for today’s Race 1.
Team Engstler’s Martin Andersen qualified second in his Hyundai i30 N, 0.147 seconds behind the poleman, demoting Marcel Fugel to third.
Andersen’s teammate Luca Engstler, the current leader of the standings, set the fourth fastest lap while his closest title contender Eric Scalvini (Wimmer Werk Motorsport, CUPRA Leon Competición) ranked a disappointing 11^th with a lap of 1:27.681.
Engstler was the first to top the timesheet with 1:27.330 on his first lap out, but he was soon demoted by his teammate Nico Gruber’s 1:27.186. Five minutes into the session, Dominik and Marcel Fugel moved into first and second as they were clocked at 1:26.139 and 1:26.454 respectively. Dominik’s time was not to be beaten, while Marcel’s was bettered by Andersen. The Dane set two consecutive fast laps of 1:26.459 and 1:26.286 with the latter granting him the second spot on the grid. Engstler too improved, but his 1:26.746 was only worth the fourth position ahead of René Kircher’s Team Oettinger Volkswagen Golf GTI (1:26.763), the third Honda Civic run by Team ADAC Sachsen for guest driver Christopher Röhner (1:26.767) and Philipp Regensperger’s Lubner Motorsport Opel Astra (1:26.996), the last car to complete a lap in less than 1:27.
