Mason Filippi took another lights-to-flag victory in TC America, the fourth for him in the season so far. Filippi and his Hyundai Veloster were followed by Nate Vincent’s Volkswagen Golf GTI for the whole race, but eventually Vincent had to settle in second ahead of his teammate Michael Hurczyn. The latter is still leading the standings, with a margin of 33 points over Vincent.
At the start, Filippi sprinted from the pole ahead of James Walker who didn’t find a gap and dropped behind Vincent and Hurczyn.
For the first half of the race, the leading quartet remained in close contact, with Michael McCann briefly joining them in fifth position. However his pace faded after lap 10 and he was passed by Victor González on lap 13.
The safety car was deployed on lap 17, to recover a TCA car stopped by a technical issue; when racing resumed in lap 20, the top six cars were covered by a bit more than three seconds.
The final five minutes saw the leaders splitting in three pairs: Filippi and Vincent were fighting for the lead, Hurczyn and Walker for third, González and McCann for fifth. Then on lap 27, Walker’s Alfa Romeo Giulietta pulled over with a broken driveshaft.
Filippi won by a slim margin over Vincent, while Hurczyn completed the podium.
In the DSG Cup, Bryan Putt and Stephen Vajda finished first and second after passing Christian Cole who had led until lap 23.
