Dušan Kouřil and Jáchym Galáš share victories at Brno
Dušan Kouřil driving a K2 Engineering Hyundai i30 N and Jáchym Galáš in a GT2 Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI took one race victory apiece in the TCR Eastern Europe powered by ESET at Brno.
In Race 1, Kouřil took a lights-to-flag victory, the second in a row for him after Race 2 at the Slovakiaring. The Czech had inherited pole position following the penalty imposed to Galáš for refuelling during Qualifying.
During the first laps, Kouřil was closely chased by Petr Čižek, Jakub Wyszomirski and Milovan Vesnič, while Galáš was recovering after starting from the back of the grid. On lap 3, Vesnič overtook Čižek and Wyszomirski, moving into second; Galáš improved the record lap four times and climbed to third. In the last couple of laps Galáš was threatening Vesnič’s second position but couldn’t find a gap to pass him and had to settle in third.
The second race was enlivened by a long three-way fight for victory between Galáš, who started from the pole, Kouřil and Vesnič. The latter had a slow start and dropped behind Wyszomirski, but quickly recovered the position, overtaking the Pole on lap 2. He then closed the gap from the leading duo and the three of them ran for most of the race within the same second. Only during the final laps, was Galáš able to build a small margin and he won by 1.7 seconds over Kouřil, while Vesnič finished third and secured the ESET V4 Cup title.
In the TCR Eastern Europe standings the Serbian has stretched his leading margin to 22 points over Galáš; for its final event the series will join the TCR Europe grid at Monza on October 11th/13th.
