With his fifth victory in the 2020 TCR Eastern Europe series at Brno, Dušan Borkovič has secured the title with three races still to go. M1RA Motorsport’s Serbian driver has won all the races held so far, building a margin of 77 points in the standings over the reigning champion Milovan Vesnić and Sandro Soubek, when 75 points remain at stake.
Borkovič had started the weekend with the right foot setting pole position in the qualifying with his Hyundai i30 N. He then had a smooth start ahead of the field, while behind him the fight for second between Vesnić’s Cupra and Soubek’s Audi started as soon as the lights went out. Soubek wasn’t giving up trying to overtake Vesnić and his efforts were successful during the second lap, when he moved into the second position.
In the midfield Szymon Jabłonski showed an excellent performance after starting from sixth on the grid, as he was able to pass Vesnić for P3 and finish the race on the podium at the wheel of the BM Racing Team’s Hyundai i30 N.
The most exciting battle was delivered by Carol Wittke (Fullinrace Academy, CUPRA) and Jáchym Galáš (GT2 Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI), who were fighting for the sixth position. Wittke was very aggressive in attacking Galáš and the two of them ran abreast in several occasions, but eventually Galáš was able to protect his position until the chequered flag.
The second race of the weekend is scheduled for 14:00 CEST on Sunday; live streaming at www.tcr-series.com.
