Even after having clinched in advance the TCR Eastern Europe title, Dušan Borkovič doesn’t intend to disrupt his winning streak and extended it to seven victories from seven races at the Hungaroring.
And yet, this time it seemed that the 2019 champion Milovan Vesnić could prevent his successor from stepping on the highest rostrum once again. Vesnić sprinted from P2 on the grid to take the lead at the start, while Borkovič, who sat on pole, struggled to keep Jáchym Galáš at bay as they negotiated abreast the first two turns, but the Hyundai driver was able to retain the second place.
From that moment on, Borkovič began to chase Vesnić; for a few laps the gap remained stable, but then it began to vanish and eventually Borkovič took the lead for good in lap 4 and pulled away.
Behind Vesnić, Galáš ran comfortably in third position, while Sandro Soubek was having a close fight with Tomáš Korený in the attempt to defend the fourth place. They battled for the whole race and eventually Soubek prevailed by less than three tenths.
Michal Makeš provided the final thrill as he passed Szymon Ładniak for sixth during the last lap after they made contact a couple of times.
Tomáš Pekař didn’t take part, after he had destroyed his CUPRA in a crash during yesterday’s Qualifying.
The second race of the weekend is scheduled for 12:20 CET on Sunday; live streaming at www.tcr-series.com.
