Darelle Wilson and Bradley Kent split wins at Castle Combe

31 May 2021

Darelle Wilson and Bradley Kent have made it four different winners from four races in the 2021 TCR UK championship at Castle Combe, during a hot summer bank holiday Monday race meeting.
In the first race, it was Power Maxed Racing CUPRA driver Jac Constable who had a great getaway from second on the grid and took the lead from pole-winner Max Hart’s Hyundai. Before Hart had a chance to respond, the safety car was called after the CUPRA of Alex Kite went off at Camp Corner and rejoined straight into the side of Will Powell’s Hyundai. Kite’s car was severely damaged but was repaired for Race 2, while Powell’s weekend ended there.
The race resumed on lap seven, with Constable leading the two Hyundai cars of Hart and Lewis Kent. Kent however found himself under attack from the Vauxhall Astra of championship returnee Wilson who took the place on lap eight. From then on, Wilson was in a defensive race, fighting to keep Kent’s car behind until the finish, which would prove crucial.
Up front, Hart harried Constable for the lead until eventually making the move past on the back straight. It was soon confirmed that Constable would receive a ten-second penalty for a false start, which would promote Wilson and Kent to the final podium positions. Hart took the chequered flag first but was excluded after his car failed post-race scrutineering, which promoted Wilson to his maiden TCR UK victory ahead of the Kent brothers.
In Race 2, Bruce Winfield was the best-placed of the TCR cars for the reversed grid, starting behind a TCT-class car. Although Winfield challenged for the lead in his DSG CUPRA into the first corner, he was unable to get past and soon found himself defending against Lewis Kent. Both Lewis and Bradley Kent made their way past Winfield on lap three, before both going on to dispatch the leader in lap five.
Meanwhile, Hart was blasting through the order after being forced to start from last place and was up to third by lap seven behind the Kent brothers. Hart ultimately couldn’t close in on the leading pair after running wide at Camp Corner.
It wasn’t over for the lead either, as on lap 12, Bradley Kent dived down the inside of his brother Lewis at Quarry Corner, took the lead and went on to win the race by just under a second ahead of his teammate.
Lewis Kent has now taken a healthy lead in the drivers’ standings on 92 points, with Hart now second on 69 and Bradley Kent third on 64.
The next round of TCR UK takes place at Brands Hatch, June 19/20.
