Daniel Haglöf won the opening round of the 2018 TCR Scandinavia at Ring Kuntstorp in what was a triumphant parade for PWR Racing and Cupra. In fact Haglöf was followed under the chequered flag by his teammates Robert Dahlgren and Philip Morin.
Haglöf made the best start and took the lead, while pole-sitter Morin kept at bay Johan Kristoffersson’s Volkswagen Golf. This allowed Dahlgren to pass both and claim second.
On lap 3, Brink Motorsport teammates Micke Ohlsson and Tobias Brink made a mistake at Turn 2; Ohlsson stopped onto the gravel, while Brink ran wide and lost ground. On lap 4, Albin Wärnelöv crashed his Volkswagen Golf, prompting the safety car into action.
The race resumed on lap nine with a light contact between Haglöf and Dahlgren, but soon the safety car returned on the track when Andreas Bäckman crashed at Turn 6.
Haglöf won the race from of Dahlgren, with Morin completing the podium, as he managed to reject the assaults from the Volkswagen cars of Kristoffersson and Fredrik Ekblom.
The second race will start at 15:30 CEST, with Andreas Wernersson on pole position.
