Touring Car veteran Tom Coronel is another top driver who joins the TCR Europe Series. The Dutchman will drive a Honda Civic Type R for Boutsen Ginion Racing, adding the European campaign to his WTCR commitment.
This is the third consecutive season together for Coronel and the Belgian team, as they took part in the 2017 TCR Benelux and last year’s WTCR.
“It is fantastic that I have the opportunity to continue my partnership with Honda and Boutsen Ginion Racing,” said Coronel. “As a driver, all I want to do is racing as many times as I can, and at the highest level. Which is the case with Honda in the TCR Europe that visits terrific circuits such as Spa, Monza, Hockenheim, Barcelona.”
Team manager Olivier Lainé echoed: “TCR Europe was a logical choice because it is a highly competitive championship and is geographically closer to our partners. We are delighted to continue with Honda and Tom in a series that promises to be extremely hard-fought.”
Because TCR Europe will kick off at the Hungaroring in the same event of WTCR, Coronel will not be allowed to drive in the European series according to the sporting regulations. Which is why Boutsen Ginion Racing has called as a valid substitute Stéphane Lémeret who claimed the inaugural TCR Benelux title in 2016 with the very same team.
