Daniele Cappellari and Jacopo Guidetti took one race win apiece in the TCR class of the Coppa Italia Turismo at Monza.
In Race 1, pole sitter Riccardo Ruberti made a poor start and dropped back. The fight for the lead was between Mauro Guastamacchia’s Honda Civic and Alessio Caiola’s CUPRA, but on lap 9, the latter retired with a mechanical issue.
In the final part of the race, Guastamacchia was joined by Cappellari, Edoardo Barbolini and Samuele Piccin in a four-way battle for victory. Eventually Guastamacchia and Cappellari made contact, Cappellari took the most out of it and jumped into the lead, while Guastamacchia dropped to fourth behind Barbolini and Piccin who completed the podium.
In the second race, Jacopo Guidetti who had replaced Ruberti in the BF Motorsport CUPRA overtook Alessio Aiello for second on lap 4 just before the MM Motorsport driver pitted with a technical issue. Guidetti then began chasing the leader Cappellari and eventually overtook him on lap 5.
Once in the lead, Guidetti opened a gap, while Cappellari defended his second place from Guastamacchia. The pair swapped positions a couple of times before Cappellari was able to create a slender margin that was enough to finish second.
The Coppa Italia Turismo will resume at Misano on July 13/14.
