Copeland Motorsports claimed another 1-2 finish in TC America second race at the Circuit of the Americas, encoring their result from yesterday’s opening race. Starting from the first row of the grid, Tyler Maxson and Nikko Reger led the field during the whole race with their Hyundai Veloster N cars.
FCP Euro’s Nate Vincent, at the wheel of his Volkswagen Golf GTI, tried two overtake the two Hyundai cars after the start, but pole sitter Maxson and Reger kept him at bay. In the second lap reigning champion Michael Hurczyn overtook his teammate Vincent for P3. He rejected a counterattack from Vincent and tried to stay in contact with the two leaders, but Maxson and Reger managed to increase the gap and eventually, halfway through the race, Vincent retook the third place from Hurczyn and so they cruised until the chequered flag.
Victor González and Roy Block made up from yesterday’s disappointment, when they clashed and spun after the start, and finished in fifth and sixth positions ahead of the DXDT Racing duo of Scott Smithson and CJ Moses.
“We did exactly the same thing we had done yesterday: just controlled the race, saved the tyres and got the car to the end,” said Maxson who has taken the lead in the standings, 14 points clear of Reger.
TC America’s will resume next weekend in Florida, on the Streets of St. Petersburg for Rounds 3 and 4.
