Cherry Cheung will make her TCR series debut at the season finale of TCR Malaysia next weekend at the Sepang International Circuit, racing a Volkswagen Golf GTI for Teamwork Motorsport.
Cheung started out racing only last year, where she has been coached and trained by race driver and member of the Teamwork Motorsport operation, Samuel Hsieh. During the course of the season, Cherry became a regular front-runner in the Chinese Racing Cup.
In order to prepare for her debut, she tested the Golf TCR at Teamwork's Guangdong base under tutelage by Hsieh during the winter.
“My dream is to race with my Teamwork brothers in the Macau Grand Prix one day. There is still a long way to go, and right now I have to get as much driving time as possible. Racing on different circuits will help me to learn, which is very important at this point. I am also very grateful to have Samuel as a coach and friend. He will be in TCR Malaysia with me to monitor my performance and help me with decisions, which I don’t yet have the experience to make,” Cheung said.
Hsieh added: "I’ve been able to follow Cherry as a coach since day one, after seeing her progress in her rookie year. She has shown interest in TCR, so making her debut with Teamwork, the team with which I've been for over a decade, is a sensible thing to do, as I know she’ll be in good hands. It will be her first time racing at Sepang, so simulator work is a must, also improving her fitness to adapt to the heat we'll experience in Malaysia.”
The TCR Malaysia championship season finale takes place on February 23rd-24th.
