Antti Buri took his second win of the season in the ADAC TCR Germany today at Most at the end of a thrilling fight with Bradley Burns in the second race.
Burns had started the reverse-grid race from pole position and led into turn one at the start from fellow Honda racer Dominik Fugel, but Buri managed to pass the German for second position on lap 12. He then closed in on Burns who was struggling with his tyres. During the final lap, Buri found a gap to pass Burns; the pair clashed into the chicane, but Buri held on to the lead.
It was a quiet start, with Burns keeping the advantage of pole position and Fugel passing Buri for second; behind them followed Max Hesse and Théo Coicaud. The Frenchman then dropped a few positions behind Lukas Niedertscheider, Mike Halder and Harald Proczyk. In lap 6, René Kircher rammed Mithell Cheah’s car, sending it off track.
While Burns pulled away, there was a tough battle between Fugel and Buri for second; in lap 13, Fugel ran wide at the exit of the last corner, losing the momentum, a set back that Buri seized to pass him and take second. Moments later, Halder stole fourth from Hesse.
The last laps were exciting, as Buri began to attack Burns, with the cars often drifting sideways given the tyre degradation. They drove abreast through the ‘esses’ ahead of turn 6, rubbing door-to-door. Buri had the inside line for turn 6 and secured victory. Equally intense was Halder’s attack on Fugel, but the latter managed to keep his podium finish. Hesse took fifth, ahead of Niedertscheider, Coicaud and Proczyk.
Halder retained the championship lead, 15 points over Hesse, while Buri moved up to third, 17 points behind the leader.
The next rounds of the ADAC TCR Germany are scheduled at the Red Bull Ring on 7-9 June.
