2020 TCR UK champion Lewis Kent and his brother Bradley - who finished runner-up in last year’s Volkswagen Racing Cup - have confirmed they will contest a full season in this year’s TCR UK, each driving a Hyundai i30 N run by the family’s Essex & Kent Motorsport team.
The team’s two recently acquired cars were campaigned in last year’s WTCR by Engstler Motorsport. Lewis - who has driven the Essex & Kent Motorsport Hyundai for the past three seasons - will swap to one of the newer cars for 2021 and will be looking to put his experience to good use.
“With all the team has learnt about the Hyundai since we entered TCR UK for its first season in 2018, my goal will be to defend the title. With more drivers on the grid, I know the competition is going to be even tougher this year. In fact, I’m expecting one of the biggest challenges to come from my brother, who’ll be driving exactly the same car as I am! I’m really looking forward to the new season and the circuits we’ll be visiting. Let’s hope we can welcome back the spectators and supporters and make this a year to remember for all the right reasons,”said the reigning champion.
Bradley is excited by the prospect of progressing to the TCR UK grid: “Before deciding what route to take this season, I drove Lewis’ car in the Silverstone All-comers race last year and won after lapping all of the competitors in my class. As you can imagine, after that experience the decision was made. I consider the Hyundai to be the best TCR car available. Add to that the experience the team has after running one for three seasons, I hope we can hit the ground running and between Lewis and I, push for wins from the word go.”
