A rainy weather plagued the opening event of the Coppa Italia Turismo at Mugello, where Eric Brigliadori and Nicola Sciaguato took one victory apiece.
In a wet first race, Brigliadori sprinted from the pole followed by Alessio Caiola, Guido Sciaguato and Mauro Guastamacchia. The leader was able to pull away from the very first lap, while behind him Sciaguato and Guastamacchia overtook Caiola to take second and third on the podium. In the last part of the race, Caiola lost the fourth position to Simone Sartoni.
The second race kicked off on a dry track; Fabio Fabiani took a poor start from the pole and Nicola Sciaguato jumped into the lead. During the first lap, Fabiani spun off and rejoined, then Sciaguato and Caiola came together; this resulted in Caiola taking the lead and Sartoni going wide in avoidance.
Caiola was chased by Sciaguato who defended the second place from Piccin and Sartoni. The latter stopped along the track with a technical issue and the safety car was deployed. When the race resumed, with nine minutes to go, a shower hit the track; Caiola went wide at T1 and rejoined in fourth position. Sciaguato inherited the lead and went to take a comfortable win, while Piccin salvaged the second place beating the recovering Fabiani by less than two hundreths.
The series will take the trip to Sicily for the second event that will be at Pergusa on 27/28 April.
