Bradley Kent claimed victory in the final race of the weekend at Brands Hatch, in a race which was led by Area Motorsport driver Bruce Winfield up until the final lap, when the race fell apart after contact with one of the Touring Car Trophy runners.
Bradley Kent started from pole position ahead of the two Hyundai cars of Lewis Kent and Max Hart, but all three of them were passed by the fast-starting CUPRA DSG of Winfield into Turn 1, while Hart was able to pick off Lewis Kent’s Hyundai at Graham Hill bend for third on the opening lap.
The race then turned into an epic battle between Winfield and Bradley Kent, with Kent trying to find a way past Winfield lap-after-lap, mostly trying to get around the outside of the Druids hairpin, with no success.
The race was held behind the safety car on lap four when one of the Volkswagen Racing Cup cars stopped at Paddock Hill bend.
When the race resumed, Kent had another run at Winfield but failed, but a lap later found himself down in third after Hart passed him at Druids, with the two drivers giving each other racing room all the way around the hairpin.
A lap later, Kent launched himself up the inside of Hart at Clearways, and the two went side-by-side through Paddock Hill and Druids, with Kent coming out back in second place.
On lap 14, the race was held behind the safety car again after one of the TCT cars stopped in a precarious position, with Winfield’s small lead wiped out.
After the second restart, Kent was finally able to make a move stick on Winfield, this time at Clearways on lap 23, with Hart following him through into Paddock Hill bend into second.
Winfield was now under attack from one of the TCT-class runners and was hit heading onto the start-finish straight, allowing Lewis Kent’s Hyundai through to third.
The two cars recovered but then clambered into each other at the next corner at Paddock Hill bend, with the race red-flagged with just under a minute left to run, with Winfield not classified despite having led almost every lap up until that point.
The next round of the TCR UK series is set to take place at Oulton Park on July 17.
