German team Piro Sports is back to Touring Car racing, after a number of seasons in single-seater formulae. The Saarland-based squad has announced its participation in the TCR Europe Series, under the banner ‘Autodis Racing by Piro Sports’ following the partnership with Luxembourg’s car dealership group Autodis that sells ten different car brands in the Grand Duchy.
The squad will be running two different car models, a Hyundai i30 N TCR and a new Honda Civic Type R TCR, entrusted to Loris Cencetti, from Luxembourg, and Germany’s Cedric Piro respectively.
Cencetti comes from the TCR Benelux and rally-cross and was a FIAT Abarth Benelux Trophy winner in 2013 while last year he won the Belgian title in the SsangYong RX Cup. The 20-year-old Piro faces his maiden season in Touring Cars after having raced so far in the ADAC Formula 4.
Team Principal Erwin Piro commented: “The team and both drivers have already a lot of experience and will be able to adapt to this new challenge. Of course, it won’t be easy to be at the top straight away, but we're determined to catch up quickly with meticulous work.”
